Bonnie Lou Reed, age 65, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, humor, and compassion touched everyone who knew her.

Born in Cook County, Chicago, Illinois, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Bonnie met the love of her life, Dennis L. Reed Sr., in 1969, and on August 28, 1976, they were married in St. Louis, Missouri. Together they shared nearly five decades of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and partnership.

In 1985, Bonnie and Dennis moved their family to Auburn, Illinois, where they made many cherished memories and lasting friendships. They lived there until 1996, when they returned to Springfield Bonnie continued to make her home surrounded by family and loved ones.

Bonnie's greatest joy came from her family, especially her beloved grandchildren — Christina Denice, Mathew, Annie, Letty, Kevin, Stephen, Hunter, Chazity, Austin, Michael, Morgan, and Madison — who filled her heart with endless happiness and pride.

She had a creative and caring spirit, finding peace and joy in crocheting beautiful pieces for her loved ones, each one crafted with patience and love. A lifelong Elvis Presley fan, Bonnie filled her home with his music and joy. She also adored her cats, who were her constant companions and a source of comfort and laughter.

Bonnie's sassy attitude and quick wit brought smiles and laughter to everyone around her. Sometimes that sass made her blunt — but that was just the way she was, and everyone who loved her wouldn't have had it any other way. Her humor, honesty, and heart will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charlotte and Michael Patterson; her biological father, Harold Chaffin; her sisters, Shirley Chaffin and Michelle Patterson; and her brother, Jeff Chaffin.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis L. Reed Sr.; her children, Denise L. Reed-Cook, Dennis L. Reed Jr. (of Elkhart, Illinois), Dennis Reed Jr. (of St. Louis, Missouri), David M. Reed, and Derrick M. Reed; her grandchildren, Christina Denice, Mathew, Annie, Letty, Kevin, Stephen, Hunter, Chazity, Austin, Michael, Morgan, and Madison; and her siblings, Butch, Steve, Kenny, Denice, and Tony.

Those who knew Bonnie will remember her gentle strength, her generous heart, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her kindness, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered forever.

A Celebration of Life for Bonnie will be held on November 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Docker's Tavern in Spaulding, Illinois.
