Cathleen
Glasscock
Sep 17, 1948 — Aug 18, 2026
Springfield, IL
Cathleen DiGirolamo Glasscock, 77, passed away on August 18, 2026.
Cathleen was born in Springfield, Illinois, on September 17, 1948. She was preceded in death by her son, Ivan William M. Glasscock; her brother, William J. DiGirolamo; and her parents, Patricia Mize DiGirolamo and William D. DiGirolamo.
Cathleen enjoyed gardening and birdwatching. She loved hummingbirds and seeing deer in the spring with their newborn fawns. She never met an underdog she didn’t want to fight for or a baby she didn’t cherish.
In the kitchen, she was in her glory. Her pasta sauce, made from tomatoes she canned herself just as her Italian grandma had, was a family favorite. Her pineapple upside-down cake was her husband’s favorite.
Cathleen was intrigued by the synchronicity and mystery of numbers and astrology. As a Virgo, she sought to understand how those mysteries could be seen in the physical world. Her way of understanding the meaning of life also included a faith that was part of her daily life.
Survivors include her husband of nearly sixty years, Ivan S. Glasscock; two sisters, Janice DiGirolamo of Athens and Madelynn DiGirolamo of Springfield; three daughters, Shelley Pethy of Chatham, Janie Brown (Ron) of Loami, and Yvonne Glasscock of Springfield; one niece, Colleen DiGirolamo of Springfield; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was extremely proud of her family and took every opportunity to show off pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League or HSHS St. John’s Foundation.
