Darlene Francis Perna "Gigi", 75, of Riverton, IL passed away on January 6, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born September 16, 1948 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Mike and Francis (Berry) Kohlrus.

Darlene is survived by her sons, Danny (Missy) Wright and Terry (Mailin) Wright; and her brothers, Mike (Doris) Kohlrus and Ron (Carolyn) Kohlrus. She is also survived by her grandkids, Daniel (Tiffany) Wright, Lisa Mathon, Mitchel Wright, Charlie (Krista) Wright, Chris (Brittany) Wright, Calvin (Elizabeth) Wright, and her great- grandkids Jaden, Kyson, Lydia, Paxten, Layla, Vuitton, Wyatt, Vayda, Amayla, Ares, and Carter.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dave Perna; her brother, John Kohlrus; and sister, Patty Jones.

Darlene was a nurse for over 30 years before retiring and spending the next several years traveling. She was always dressed to impress; shopping was her favorite pastime. She had a real knack for design and creating, you could often find her working on her newest DIY masterpiece. She loved being a grandma and great-grandma and spending time with her grandchildren, especially her only granddaughter, Lisa Marie. Although her memory was taken from her, she never lost her bold attitude and sense of humor.

Darlene was a devoted mother and grandmother but also a woman who knew how to infuse joy into every moment. Her infectious laughter and zest for life made her the life of the party, bringing light to the lives around her.

Her legacy is one of triumph, a celebration of the human spirit's capacity to rise above challenges and emerge stronger. She leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with love, laughter, and the impact of her indomitable spirit.
