Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – David Harrison Lowery, 64, passed away September 11, 2025, in Springfield, Illinois.

David was known locally and by an extensive Facebook following as the Paranormal Highwayman for his longtime dream to travel Route 66 in his restored motorhome, Blackbird. A talented and professional photographer, David hoped to lead investigations and lecture on the supernatural legends of the famous 2,448 miles of "Mother Road" that passed through 8 states from Chicago to Santa Monica from 1926 until 1985. Health problems kept him from that dream; however, his love of cars, especially Corvettes, fishing with his brother, collecting vintage cameras and Western wear, and photography kept his life busy.

David was born May 3, 1961, to Mae Nell Smith Lowery and Roy Kennith Lowery, both of whom predeceased him. The youngest of four children, he was predeceased by a sister, Lawanda Lowery McKinney, and is survived by his brother, Kennith W. Lowery (Debbie) of Rochester, IL and Judi Lowery Taylor (Dan) of Vestavia Hills, Al, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. David is survived by two children, Roy James Lowery and Dana Lowery Rinozzi (ron). Karen Martin, Christine Parsons, and many other good caring friends, as well as his faithful dog, Ashmore, are left to mourn him.

A Celebration of Life for a later date is yet to be determined.

Contributions appreciated to the Pediatric Osteosarcoma Research and Nonprofit (www.mibagents.org) in memory of David and his predeceased great-niece, Adysen.
