Obituary

Gene Larsen Anderson

July 12, 1943- October 29, 2026

Gene Anderson was a man whose life was defined by his faith in Jesus Christ. He lived his life with purpose, believing that whatever a person chose to do, it should be done with excellence, honesty, and dedication.

Family and Love

One of the greatest influences in Gene’s life was his father, Don Anderson (1910–1970). Gene carried with him a lesson his father had taught him:

“It doesn’t make any difference what you do in life, but always be the best at it—even if you are a ditch digger!

Gene cherished the opportunity to work alongside his father in the family’s typewriter business from 1957 until 1990. When his father Don Anderson died in 1970, Gene took over Anderson Typewriters. Through the years, he built relationships with the community and local schools by providing excellent, honest, and prompt service. He took great pride in being a dedicated business owner and serving his customers.

Gene’s greatest blessings included his beloved wife, Bev, whom he described as the love of his life. Their story began with a little adventure, as Gene humorously recalled having “trapped” Bev into marrying him. They were married in the Florida Keys on December 30, 1971.

Bev gave Gene the two wonderful sons he had prayed for, along with two handsome grandsons and two loving granddaughters. His family was a source of tremendous joy.

Memories and Interests

Some of Gene’s fondest memories including deep sea fishing from Daytona Beach, Florida. He also treasured those fishing adventures with Bev over the years and all the friends & memories they made along the way.

Gene had a lifelong passion for automobiles, especially fast cars and classic Plymouths. His hobbies included playing ping-pong, model trains, and restoring Plymouths from the 60s and 70s. He also loved watching NASCAR and attending car shows with his son Gene Jr. Gene was also a master at the grill, and at deep frying the Florida fish he caught. No one on the planet could come close.

A Life of Faith and Service

Above all, Gene’s life was centered on his relationship with Jesus Christ.

Gene considered it a privilege to be a representative of Jesus Christ to people outside the church—people who might otherwise never have the opportunity to know Him.

Gene also held a special appreciation for the preachers who encouraged and strengthened his faith, including Clint Cook, whom he considered the best preacher in the world. Gene always said: “I praise God for always having His hand on me!!”

Gene’s legacy is one of faith, love, hard work, and service. His greatest accomplishments were not measured by the cars he loved, the business he built, or the years he worked, but by the family he cherished, the people he touched, and the faith he lived every day.

Gene was preceded in death by his son, Don Anderson; his father and mother, Don Anderson and Susan Blanche Anderson; and his brother, Don Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Anderson; his son, Gene Anderson; his sister, Joyce Wheeler; and four grandchildren.

Due to the unexpected nature of Gene’s death, the family asks that In lieu of flowers, that donations be made at the Bank of Springfield to The Gene account under Beverly Anderson. Donations can be made at any BOS drive-through.
