Obituary

On September 6, 2023, James "Wonderful" Costa, 97, passed away peacefully with family by his side. He was born in Detroit, MI on August 20, 1926 to Eugene and Genevieve Carroll Costa. The family moved to Springfield, IL in 1932. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1948 and married Rosemary Gauer in 1949. They had five children. He and his brother Gene owned and operated Precision Products, Inc. for 60 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eugene and Thomas Costa, his wife Rosemary Costa, his son James J. Costa, daughter Katherine Costa, and son-in-law Douglas Garofalo. He is survived by his sister Sally Ineich (Paul), daughters Carol Kolhauser (Dick), Christine Garofalo, and Sandra Costa, as well as three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and lots of nieces and nephews.

Jim was a soft-spoken gentleman, a truly gentle man whose humor and even temperament endeared him to and gained him the respect of business associates as well as family and friends. Whether for a Notre Dame football game, a birthday, or just another Wednesday night, Jim shined the brightest when together with people, and we are grateful for all 97 of his years. He will be greatly missed.

A funeral Mass for Jim will be held at Christ the King Church,1930 Barberry Drive, Springfield, Illinois on Thursday, September 28 at 10:30am with burial at Calvary Cemetery following the mass.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hyman Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306 would be appreciated by Jim, a Navy veteran, and his family.
