Obituary

Linda Gail Squires peacefully passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born on November 15, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Charles and Eunice Squires.

Linda graduated from Springfield High School in 1971, earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1975, and her Master of Science from Illinois State University in 1985.

She dedicated her life to teaching and served as a compassionate special education teacher for 28 years at the Lincoln Developmental Center in Lincoln, Illinois. Her students held a special place in her heart, and she carried fond memories of them throughout her life.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her lifelong companion, Bob Freeman; her nieces, Dura Jane Squires and Lindsay Shutt; her nephew, Tom Kinsell; and her dear friend, Dennis Brown.

She is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Robert (Jane) Squires of Springfield, IL; Pam (Jim) Wells of Springfield, IL; Karen Trask of Loganville, GA; and Nancy (Bruce) Shutt of Glenarm, IL; her lifelong friend, Marsha Brown; three nieces, two nephews, and two great-nieces.

Linda was a faithful Christian who lived a quiet life of kindness and generosity. She supported many charitable causes, with a special love for those helping animals. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Logan County Animal Humane Society in Lincoln, Illinois.

Her ashes will be buried alongside Bob at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln, IL. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
