Michael G. Nickols passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Born on September 21, 1979, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to G. Allen Nickols and Iris (Seay) Wesley, Mike spent the majority of his life in Springfield, Illinois. He graduated from Lutheran High School in 1997, where he distinguished himself as a varsity soccer player. For over 14 years, Mike served as an accountant at the Illinois State Comptroller's Office and also dedicated his time as a union steward.

He is survived by his wife, Lorelei (Frost) Nickols; his mother, Iris (Seay) Wesley; his father, G. Allen (Maureen) Nickols; his stepfather, Robert (Deborah) Wesley; his siblings, Christopher (Amanda) Nickols, Jennifer Nickols, Matt Nickols, and Katy (Blake) Montgomery; his children, Ian (Sharon) Nickols, Owen Nickols, and Brady Nickols; his grandchildren, Sammy and Israel; and his many nieces and nephews.

Mike's greatest joy in life was spending time with his sons and grandsons. His intense love and loyalty for his family was never-ending, and extended to his vast circle of friends whom he considered family. He had an unparalleled ability to unite people, infusing warmth and laughter into every gathering, often in his signature quirky attire.

Mike enjoyed playing in numerous softball, darts, golf, soccer, and fantasy sports leagues. His vacations were spent fishing, binge-watching comedies, and cooking out for his family and friends on the deck. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, like his mother and father, and became a Pittsburgh Steelers fan after the Rams left St. Louis. Mike generously contributed to multiple charities and eagerly anticipated sponsoring and attending local charity golf events each summer with his friends and stepfather.

Known for his innate gift of conversation, Mike possessed the extraordinary ability to connect with anybody, anywhere. Whether offering a listening ear or injecting levity into serious moments, he always had a knack for incorporating his unique blend of music, humor, and dance into any situation, forging deep bonds with those around him.

Though his life was unexpectedly cut short, the memories of Mike's vibrant spirit will carry on, and the world will forever be a better place for having him in it.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of Mike's life will be held later this year, honoring the indelible mark he left on the hearts of so many.
