Brian D. Murphy
President, Licensed Funeral Director and CCO
Brian is a licensed funeral director and the President of Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. He is also a Certified Crematory Operator and licensed life insurance producer.
A lifelong Springfield resident and the son of George and Margaret (Layendecker) Murphy, he graduated from Little Flower Grade School and Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. Brian attended Lincoln Land Community College and is a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois.
Brian began working in the funeral industry when he was 16 years old. Seeing his career opportunity, he worked his way up from cutting grass and washing cars to become a licensed funeral director. Brian previously worked with two Springfield funeral homes before joining the staff of Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel in 1999. In 2005, he purchased the funeral chapel from Russell L. Vancil, Jr.
Brian married Adrienne L. Frey of Sherman. He enjoys spending time with her and their two sons, Riley and Jack, and their Miniature Pinschers, Steve and Daisy. He also enjoys boating, fishing, and working in the yard. He is an avid Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Brian is a current member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Illinois Funeral Directors Association, Illinois Funeral Directors Association Convention Committee, National Funeral Directors Association, Cremation Association of North America, and National Federation of Independent Business.
Today, even as the owner of the funeral home, Brian still enjoys cutting the grass and washing the cars.

Adrienne L. Murphy
Secretary/Treasurer, Pre-Need Consultant and CCO
Adrienne is the Secretary/Treasurer and Pre-Need Consultant for Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. She is also a Certified Crematory Operator. The daughter of Rick and Mary Don Frey, she was raised in the Sherman/Williamsville area, where she graduated from Williamsville Junior High. She is a graduate of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, where she was a four-year member of the volleyball team. She continued her education and volleyball career at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO, and later attended the University of Illinois Springfield.
Adrienne married Brian D. Murphy of Springfield. While raising their sons, Riley and Jack, Adrienne was employed as the assistant director at Beginning Steps Child Development Center in Rochester. She joined the staff of Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home on a full-time basis in 2006. She is a licensed life insurance producer.
Adrienne enjoys spending time with her family and their Miniature Pinschers, Steve and Daisy. She enjoys boating, fishing, bird watching, gardening, and playing board games with her boys. When she finds time in her busy schedule, she enjoys baking and trying new recipes. She is a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She is a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Riley D. Murphy

Riley D. Murphy is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and Certified Crematory Operator. Born and raised in Springfield, he is a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Grade School and is a 2015 graduate of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, where he was a member of their varsity soccer team.
The son of Brian and Adrienne Murphy, he has grown up in the funeral home and decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. He attended Lincoln Land Community College and is a 2018 graduate of the Carl Sandburg College Mortuary Science Program.
As his father started in the funeral business, Riley started working part-time for Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, taking care of the grounds and washing cars. He is also a Certified Crematory Operator.
Riley married his high school sweetheart, Emily Hammond, in May of 2019. Riley and Emily reside in Springfield with their two dogs, Penny and Roxie.
Riley, aka “Mr. Sports Center,” enjoys watching all sports and has a vast knowledge of players and their stats. He is a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Cardinals, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and is an avid Chelsea Football Club fan. He enjoys boating, tubing, and kneeboarding and recently discovered that he is quite the fisherman.
